eye diagram setup

Hi members,

I'm planning to measure the performance of a serdes channel using SpectreRF. I dont know how to do that. I couldn't also find materials showing the experiments to set up in order to measure the eye diagram. I decided to consider this experiment :

1- The output of serializer is inverted. I got 2 output S1 and S2.
2- I connected the serializer's output to two deserializers
3- The serializer send indefinetly the sequence 010101...
4- I construct the eye diagram by superposing the two curves S1 and S2 appended in the same window inside the wave editor
5- I do my measures.

Is my experiment right ?
(Personely I dont think so because of the delay introduced by the inverter to generate S2 from S1)

Give a pseudo random sequence of data.
Then you can use the eyedigram function in the calculator directly.
If you put a deterministic data pattern(1010..) the eye diagram will look good.
Better is to put pseudo random data.
