Hello,

I want to capture the video output from a standrad camera (the one that goes directly into the TV) with my fpga. For the beginning a schematic on conneting the two would be great. Because I own a DSP development board I have no ADC's, so I would need a little jumpstart on the actual protocol that is used.

Thank you

Video input

Please clarify "standard camera". Modern TVs and camcorders have many different video connections such as composite video, S-Video, component video, firewire, and various analog and digital high-definition links.

If you are using a standard-definition format, is it NTSC or PAL?

Which FPGA (DSP?) board do you have? If it doesn't have any suitable ADCs, then you will need to add one (or several) for analog video. You will probably want a DAC (perhaps several) to output similar video.

Re: Video input

You will have to use a ADC. eg TVP5150A this chips converts NTSC/PAL/SEACM analog video input to 8 bit Y Cb Cr digital output which can be then feed to FPGA.

You will have to make two connections , one for digital data input other for controlling the video decoder chip.

does anyone know how to use Texas Instrument DM6437
