Before diving into FPGA design, you should already know digital logic design and an HDL such as Verilog or VHDL. If you have that knowledge, then one easy path is to buy an inexpensive FPGA starter kit from Xilinx or A.ltera, install the development tools onto your computer, and try the included "getting started" tutorials. Next you can try creating your own simple projects such as flashing LEDs and reading switches. Then advance to more challenging projects. Good luck!

Re: fpga beginner

learn any HDL; Verilog is comparitively easier if u dont have any teacher

and also keep implementing small programms like and gate, counter and so on
on the Fpga(if u gave any kit available) This will give u confidiece in urself.

"System on a Chip" usually refers to squeezing most of a microprocessor PC board project into one FPGA or ASIC. You can put microprocessors, peripheral controllers, special timing and signal processing logic, high-speed I/O, and other digital stuff into an FPGA or ASIC. However, large memory and analog circuits may need to go outside, especially with FPGA.
