DEAR ALL:
I have a problem that I must convert 8BIT WAV to 6BIT OR 5 OR 4 BIT.
This work can be done under PC program.
then put into EEPROM, and use 8051 to de-compress it return 8 BIT DATA, then play it still sound can have general quality
So ask everyone is there any solution ?or any algorithm ?

I only know one way : ignore the LSB 2 BIT (BIT 1 and BIT 0)

Please give me some idea , Very thanks!!

You should look at ADPCM algorithm this can convert 16 (12., 8 ...) to 4 bits. It gives you a relatively good quality at playback.

best regards
