actually using a schottkey diode is best when the amplitude of the input signal is very low because the forward diode drop of schottkey diode is about .25V which is very less compared to the 0.7V of PN diode... also schottkey diode have very good recovery time due to absence of storage time and hence can be used to rectify high frequency signals...
but the reverse breakdown voltage is very low.... but i think diodes with much higher reverse breakdown voltage are present....
