Re: Problem in SUSE 10.1

OK
1. YOU TRY TO GO TO SYSTEM CONFIGURATION .
YOU CAN USE THE DRIVER CORRESPONDING GIVEN WITH YOU MOTHER BOARD CD.
TRY TO POINT THE DRIVER. THEN MAKE APPR. CHANGES
2.TRY TO INSTALL WITH NET CONNECTED TO YOUR SYSTEM.

Problem in SUSE 10.1

That is not a real problem
I drove my suse'es for years with out monitor drivers.
This is what you shuld do:
Get a driver for your graphics card, nvidia or ati or whatever, install it,
for installing an nvida driver yoou have three choices:
1. Get a prebuild binary rpm package (search the net);
2. Use the prebuild binary kernel module for suse wich comes with the nvidia drivers downloaded from nvidia.com
the first two choices are only usable if you use the original vanila kernels wich come with the default version of suse 10.2, if you compiled aditional modules for your kernel sach as aditioal drivers or you updated your kernel the former modeas are unusable.

3. This is the best way to get your modem to work and in my opinion it's the simplest. Go to runlevel 3 init 3, execute the script wich wraps the compressed nvidia driver nvidia***.run, this recuires that you have the gnu c compiler version 3.3 installed as well as the kernel sources it doesn't work with the latest version 4. The script will ask you if you wish do build the drivers type y and if all is well that's it.
next go to run level 3 (you're allready here) and start sax2;
Next configure you graphics gard with in sax, and for a monitor type chose a default vesa version with the appropriate resolution and collor deapth ([/if your monitor version isn't supported[/b]), enable 3d acceleration, and that's it, I belive that your problem is the graphics driver as Suse and evry other Gnu Linux ships without eny real nvidia driver.

Problem in SUSE 10.1

Did you sucseed in geting suse to work?
If all else fails get the newest Open Suse 10.2 wich ships with an increased number of monitor profiles, get it from a torrent availoble at

Re: Problem in SUSE 10.1

Well yes it does. You can read the changes at en.opensuse.com
if you get it don't get the iso but get the contents of these two ftp folders as they're updated:
**broken link removed** for the packages that come with the 5 CD's, and for property packages:
**broken link removed**

Get only what you need eg. the x86 or the 64 bit or the ppc version.

Make two DVD's for the oss, and non-oss folders.
Make the oss DVD bootable:
under window$ use isobuster and extract the bootloader from the /oss/boot/boot.iso file and save it to your harddrive, then using nero make a bootable dvd project containing the files from the oss folder, under the boot tab in nero chose the image file you extracted for an image file, select no emulation, load segment of sectors hex!: 07C0, and number of loaded sectors 4, burn the iso, during install you will be asked if you'd like to add additional package media chose yes and add the second dvd or better yet this can be a cd as it's not that large, and you're off.

OK this might be an overkill, if you have the bandwidth you can get the original DVD or CD iso's and use yast for updating the packages :)

Problem in SUSE 10.1

You need all for your specific pc (x86 or amd64 or ppc)
and yes you can update your 10.1 for that u can eather use yast.
But it's probobly better to get the iso files for your pc architecture ;)

Problem in SUSE 10.1

Hay pd just read the relice notes from Suse 10.2 and here is a quick quote:
openSUSE 10.2 is available on different media:

5 CDs

1 Add-On CD with proprietary binary packages (including packages under a non open source license)

1 Add-On CD with certain language packages.

1 DVD containing the contents of the 5 CDs plus the contents of the Add-On with the binary packages plus support for a subset of languages.

For a default installation (including KDE or GNOME desktop) in one of the following languages, you only need CDs 1-3: Czech, German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, and Chinese.

CDs 4 and 5 and the language Add-On contain further language packages (Polish, Danish, Hungarian, Dutch, Bokmaal, Finnish, and Khmer). For installing these language versions and special packages, use CD 4-5 and the Language Add-On CD. The Language Add-On holds special packages such as more language packages for OpenOffice.org and and KOffice, spell checkers for various languages, specialized fonts, and specialized tools for Korean and other Asian languages.

so get the iso's for the first three cd's and download the rpm's for your language from the above mentioned website you can get the addon cd but I suggest that you only download the packages that you need eg. adobe updated the flash plugin to v. 9 while the version on the addon cd is 7
best regards
