hello,

i have a DSL network amongst my neighbours, and they used port forwarding for the bit torrent cliens they are using, which consumes a large amount of the BW. I have the router and switch and they are under my control. the question is, is there a program that I could use to divide the BW evenly between us?

I know some could suggest a program to be installed on all the network computers which does so like "netlimiter", but i need a program that the adminstrator of the router could use cause, actually, i don't trust my neighbours in installing a program like " netlimiter".

any help??

Re: controlling the BW

Shadoweek,

See if your router supports QoS (Quality of service)

If so, you can divide the bandwidth equally between your neighbours, or you can assign a low priority for the bit torrents applications

Re: controlling the BW

hi,

thanks hassan for your help. My router supports the QoS, but how can I specify low priority to the bit torrents applications??

I do have a menu for specifying the priority percentage for low and medium priorities. but, how do I know that the torrents have a low priority specification??

thanks in advance,

Re: controlling the BW

Shadoweek,

You will have to do some homework here.

research bittorrent clients for known ports and known servers and adjust the priority for these addresses and/or ports.

or you can take the simple way, and divide the bandwidth equally between the users.

Hassan

Re: controlling the BW

Hi,

this again depends on your router model

i guess you can limit the rate based on the source address in any QoS supporting router

If you can send me the model of your dsl router may be i will be able to send you the exact configuration

Hassan
