vfone is wright, there is an optimum LO level that should be applied to mixer to minimize the conversion loss. Depending on acctual mixer frequencies, it is sometimes worthwile to match the LO port to have required LO level as low as possible for optimum pumping. Sometimes this matching is not justified (e.g. for broadband designs) as losses in matching network are acctually making required LO power to increase, although good LO VSWR is achieved.
