Dear Friends,
I am Using Silabs microcontroller for my new project. But I came to know the power supply voltage is 2.7V to 3.6V. So the output at port pins will be this voltage say 3.6V when the port pin is made high by internal instruction. Will this voltage is enough to interface with external peripherals like LCD, GSM Module etc.?.I was previously using Philips 89C51RD2 where the supply is 5V and I didnt faced any problem in interfacing with external world.
Please clarify my doubt.
Thanx in advance.
Regards,
Vamanan

hi vamanan,
i dont think it will be a problem for passing the data from the 8051 to the LCD etc, as the peripheral will normally have a high voltage detect of about 2.0 -2.7 v.
But the problem will be the reading of 5v signal to the pins of the micon. Pls check if the micon is a 5v tolerant I/O pinelse u got to put a srries resistor so that too much current will not destroy the pin or an external 3.3 zener diode.
(I am asuming that u are powering the LCD etc with 5v and the micon with 3v.)

Hope this helps :D
regards
Sam
