Hi!

I have a problem with my tektronix 2235 oscilloscope. Please look at those movie-clips:

Is it possible to repair or do i have to find a new crt, or just live with it?

/Johan

Possible cause for your troubles can be magnetics field near display or magnetisation of CRT shield, or defective trace rotation circuit. It is not CRT itself I believe.

Another movie rotating the trace:

I have had the oscilloscope transported by mail, so it has probably been handled pretty rough... :/

Ok, thanks

"Mechanical distortion within the tube: if the above technique doesn't work, the tube or scope has probably been dropped, and the shock has broken or bent an internal electrode or support. If the tube exhibits the identical distortion outside the chassis, with the shield removed, it is damaged, and has to be replaced."

i guess i will look for a new crt

Added after 3 hours 37 minutes:

I removed the crt from the oscilloscope and found that a small piece of glass was loose, so i guess it cannot be fixed...

Anyone knows where to get a new crt? i guess it is very hard to find...

i assume i will just have to use the oscilloscope as it is :)

Have you tried to reconnect CRT outside of chassis? Glass damage on CRT is not the cause. Broken glass will have consequence of loosing vacuum and CRT would not function at all. You would not be able to see any display. Look if deflection plates are not displaced, damaged. They have to be orthogonal between each other and parallel.

It is not easy to use the CRT outside the chassis... maybe if i try to move the rear connector and use patch cables...

Next thing to try is to disconnect trace rotation coil and test display. If coil current is not pure DC it can be cause for troubles.
