Cons of SMD adapter use in breadboards

Hello y'all,

How are you guys doing?

I have a general question regarding using SMD adapters and breakout boards on breadboards, have you ever faced any issues with them? Did the circuit behave in a highly unusual way?

Hi,

When I've used them the biggest problem is that they take up a lot of space on the breadboard, and some have a rubbish pin spacing. The circuits haven't behaved in an unusual way. I guess depending on the circuit in question it could have a "big" influence, after all, where avoidable - sockets, sil pins and adapter boards are all a bit of a no-no, aren't they? They add inductance, resistance and capacitance, so - without knowing - may be terrible for a high speed or very small signal (uV/nA) type of circuit.
 
As working in a breadboard, it won't affect so much. The worst problem would be the breadboard itself... the adapter couldn't make the circuit work bad at high frequencies more than the breadboard would.

The only disadvantage is that it ocuppies some space, but it's comfy to change ICs... I made some small PCBs for SOIC16 to DIP.. it only takes 2 rows more than the DIP, but you have to solder the IC and unsolder it if you want to use it, or just keep it there for future tests. The bad thing is when you burn it... you will have to unsolder it without choice. The good, it's cheap as air.
