Dear All

can you give me a proper Method for the Gate current required for the Mosfet driving purpose.?

I searched many on the google but some formula are conflicting to me if i cross check.

Kindly give a scientific approach to calculate such.

I am using following mosfet for my designing with VGS=15V

Expecting your derivable formula here on this page.

Thanks
Marx

Current (I) is the rate of change of electric charge (Q) with respect to time (t).

I = Q(in coulombs)/t(in seconds)

Therefore, I = Q(in coulombs) * Frequency(in Hz)
There will be a parameter called maximum gate charge Qg in the datasheet of your device.

I = Qg * Fsw will be the gate current required, where Fsw is the switching frequency of your MOSFET.

Hi,

Below there us a box with "similar threads".

All those threads discuss your question.

Additionally manufacurers of Mosfets and Igbts and manufacturers of driver circuits provide those informations as "application notes" and "design guides".

Hi Klaus

I checked the similar threads where everyone puts there Equations.

if i derived from the all formulas and try cross check then it doesn't match.

That is why i am looking for scientific approach or good articles which will help me.

Hi,

Physics stays the same... and the formulas given in the manufacturers documents usually are true.

But we don't see if you use the correct formula and insert the correct values from the datasheets.
So if you show us yourc alculations we could surely better assist you.
This could speed up for you to get the correct values.

Hi
There are many ways to calculate the required current for gate of a mosfet .
One of them is based on Vc=C(dv/dt) which can be easily used to calculate the ic . ( according to the ciss )
The other way is IG=Qg*F it came from this issue :
C=Q/V and I= Q/T ==== > C=Q*V

Hence : I= Q* (1/T) where 1/T is F so : I=Q*F

and ....
