Hi all....I am designing a DAC for WLAN application...
I am not able to understand one thing about DACs....The speed is qouted as MSPS...and also a clock for the DAC is specified as Fclk in data-sheets..
..which is termed sampling frequency

Question: What is relation between Fclk & MSPS...i have seen one more term : update frequency....can any kind soul throw some light on this....

I am confused as to what is what...also sampling frequency for a DAC does not make sense (does it)

regards,

regards,

sorry , what is MSPS ?? in DAC ,
if 8bit DAC , a complete output waveform cycle need
2^8=256 step for sinewave , if clock is 1M ...
the DAC max output frequency => 1M/256 = 3.9KHz

what is msps?

Not so many steps are needed to recover a band-limited signal. The lost steps can be interpolated by low-pass filter.

wht is msps

MSPS is mega samples per second and its similar to MHz sampling frequency. Sampling frequency in DAC exists because it has its frequency of conversion and digital signal can be oversampled or interpolated and filtered in order to get better performances easear filtering and bigger SNR.

relation between msps and sampling frequency

For example, if it takes 10 clock cycles for one conversion, then the Sample Frequency is one tenth the Clock Frequency.
