hello everyone,

i was studying power electronics, i saw methods on book to design control circuit for converters. but there is also ready entegre controllers for converters.

in which situation, will i need to design new control circuit? and in which situations i will use ready controller entegre?

You should use an integrated controller whenever possible, because it will save you many headaches while providing many features for a reasonable price. If there is already a product on the market to do what you desire, it is almost always a better idea to purchase it than to build it yourself (unless of course, you are practicing for educational purposes). This website has many integrated power controllers and regulators, known for their high quality.

You generally need to design a new control circuit if:
a) You are trying to make things even cheaper than an integrated solution can provide (it is occasionally possible to make things cheaper using discrete components).
b) You are trying to implement complex or optimal power control, such as for DC/AC conversion, grid-tie inversion, motor control, or peak power point tracking.
c) You are working with extremely high power levels, and need to implement numerous safety features.
d) You are trying to implement features that are not included in any integrated controllers.

As a final note, when you can't find any integrated controllers which implement the feature you desire, it is often possible still to use an integrated controller—and build a peripheral circuit which implements the feature.

Between those three, I would recommend you to learn all of them! =) Whenever you design a circuit, you must take many things into account so it is beneficial to know a lot about everything.

In my profession of Power IC design, I use knowledge from these fields:
a) Circuit Fundamentals
b) Power Electronic Systems
c) Control Systems
d) Analog IC Design
e) Digital IC Design
f) Solid State Physics
g) Electromagnetics
h) Signal Processing & Linear Systems
i) SPICE simulation
j) Common Sense

As a Power IC designer, one generally is not an expert in any one of these fields, but rather a generalist who understands and can apply knowledge from them. As a student who desires to design circuits, you should strive to understand as much about everything as possible, because you don't know when you'll need it.

Yes, I've been working with circuits for years and I still don't feel like I know enough to be a bold and confident designer. IC design in particular has a high barrier to entry, largely because of the incredible up-front cost (If you make a mistake on an IC design, it can cost thousands of dollars or even tens of thousands; a mistake on a PCB design will usually only cost several hundred), and also because of the sheer breadth of skills and knowledge required.
