cost factor doesn't overlook productivity.linux drivers are not the easiest to write/find whereas most of the companies write drivers for m$.So here is the challenge:if u have the guts go for linux(u feel u can do it) ,but if its time-bound m$ is the choice !!

i think the question of just asking the salaries is a little vague in nature.Since the person asking it would immediately convert it to the currency of his native country and it may seem either very high or low.Things would really become clear if u know the living...
i have used the embedded VC,but not the media sdk.So first read the documentation of the sdk,u may not need embedded vc at all.As far as interfacing is concerned-is that ever a problem in windows ?? I use the .net compactframework to make life simple and target a wide range of platforms !!!
i keep things simple:plz give the definitions from whereever u have read them and point out where they seem to be confusing.
The OS concepts for win and lin are the same ,the only differences lie in thier implementation.So its better t learn the OS basics rather than first learning win or lin.
