I I understand the matter a typical multiple position rotary switch would require each output to be connected to a pin on the microcontroller, but an optical encoder would only require that two outputs are connected to the microcontroller. I'm wanting to learn about my options. So far all that...
I'm new to DSP circuitry (I'm an old vacuum-tube guy), and I'm wondering what are some good options for rotary and linear dials that act kind of like multiple position switches (i.e., say about 25 different points of selection)? Would an opto encoder work for this? What are my options?
