Hi all,
Thanks for the quick replies.
I agree about schematics. Rest assured, this will be in VHDL. I only used Quartus schematics as it was the quickest way of getting a picture of a circuit diagram to post on here.

Hi all,
I am just coding up (VHDL) a design and am pondering the best strategy for creating a clean, synchronous reset signal from noisy asynchronous reset inputs.
My circuit is this: I have an FPGA, with its own dedicated clock input (on a global clock pin) from a local oscillator. The FPGA...
Well, I just put together a small test schematic, some cut down libs and the RGF file and sods law its working now!
I will investigate why its not working in the previous one I tried - I didn't do anything different.
Attached anyway for info.
parts.txt = parts.lib
test.txt = test.scm
report1...
Hi Marce
Thank you for sending the RGF example.
Your line which tests the value of the IS_SMD attribute does not appear to be doing anything fundamentally different to what my RGF does, apart from the obvious things like the attribute name is different, its capitalised, and the condition you...
Hi All,
I am having trouble running a report in the Cadstar report generator and wondered if anyone could help.
My parts library has various attributes defined, these include the part "type" e.g. resistor SMD, capacitor through-hole, and also an "is_fitted" attribute that can be edited in the...
Hi all,
A question about attribute type names in libraries.
It seems to me there are (at least) 3 different "formats" for attributes added to a parts definition in the cadstar libraries. I was wondering what the differences were, does it matter which method you use, and are there any...
Thanks Marce.
One last, final question on this topic (honest!); what is the recommended way to add items to the schematic that you want to appear on the BOM (such as jumpers, mating halves for connectors, the bare PCB itself, etc...) but they have no connectivity or nothing electrical...
Thanks for this Mattylad.
One more question about variants - is it possible to display the variant name on the schematic itself? That way, when the scm is printed, you can see which variant has been printed. If not, can this be raised as an enhancement request? (along with being able to display...
Thanks all. For all new parts from now on, we'll use the GUI with one part per definition.
Whilst I am here, what's the recommended method for dealing with non fitted components in the BOM? I tried the variant manager, and it works, but it seems a bit overkill if you don't actually have more...
OK, thanks for the reply. This will be quite a change, as we have multiple parts sharing the same definition ((
This will have to be changed to 1 part for 1 definition, before the extra attribute can be added.
Also noted your point about using the GUI rather than manually editing the lib files...
Hi Mattylad
Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah, I know how to do it by adding an extra attribute into the library.
But, the part number I want already exists in the part definition in the library - in brackets after the partname. What I would like to do is to make that information available from...
Hi all,
Is there a way in Cadstar to make the partnumber that is associated with a part in the library, visible in the PCB layout? As far as I can see, the only things you can make visible in the PCB layout are either the component reference or the part name.
Maybe it is possible to attach an...
