it depends on your application. If you are looking for parametric analysis, where u r studying the effect of dielectric, u can change the dielectric constant without changing the geometry.

The radiating air box extends lambda/2 on each side of the antenna. I believe that it is a large enough airbox to get accurate results.

I am designing a halfwave microstrip dipole(not a patch antenna), which consists of two rectangular monopole strips of quarter wavelength each. I am simulating it in HFSS and I cannot achieve the 2.14dB which is the theoretical gain of a single dipole. My gain is around -2.5dB.

does your cylinder have a thickness? and are you using any other material apart from pec? check on the intersections and the edges ..zooom in and check.

scripting can give you a vb file, which when double clicked can act just like an exe file, provided you have hfss installed in the system
