SCR is more complex to use than a transistor. They dont operate in the same way as transistors. I dont recommend using scr in place of txr unless you have indepth knowledge about them.
Yes i tried the troubleshooter. It displayed correct values with the socket. And dint work for the icsp circuit. I can read the pic. I guess the chip is faulty. Right now i dont have another pic to test.
Tried dint help.

Length is around 10inch. I know its too much but I mentioned that I'm using the inbuilt programmer ic socket that is provided. So its not working either way.
SWG is inversely proportional to the thickness of the wire. Lesser the thickness less the current carrying capacity. Please see the relation between swg and diameter of the wire for better understanding.
Yes i have been using the same IC and clone for a while and everything was working fine. I was using it in a programming ic socket. Until recently i used icsp circuit. Thats when i landed into problem. Now I'm not able to program thru the socket also.
I had a similar problem with my pic18f452. Later i found out that the option register doesnt even exist on my chip. So i guess you better search whether you have option register in your chip or its in the name some other register as horace1 mentioned.
All pic microcontrollers are not code...
Nope the HC-SR04 can give u only so much.
If u want a better range i recommend u to check out long range ultrasonic transmitters. U will have to build your own module for this.
