Re: Data over DC power
That was my initial thought too, but on reflection I realised that its actually common practice in the audio world with 48v phantom power on balanced microphones - AFAIK 48v is applied to both the hot and cold side of the balanced line, and grounded via the screen of the...
Hello all. I'm searching for a way to transfer both data AND power over a single twisted pair cable. The data itself is a differential RS485 signal from a PIC micro and DS75176 at either end, running at 19200bps. The power is DC 24v, with a maximum current in the area of a couple of Amps.
I've...
Hi everyone. You might remember a couple of weeks back I made a post about converting the output voltage of a current transformer to DC. In the end I decided to go for the AD736 from analogue devices.
I've breadboarded my circuit and wired the chip to give true RMS - DC conversion, so...
One final question ( honest :D )...
You mention that I need a symmetric supply to all the OpAmps in the circuit. However, the output I require is only 0-5v DC, so can I can away with just a single rail supply here? I am of course assuming here that the peak detector circuit does give a DC output.
Again thanks Ian, you confirmed what I thought about the VA capacity of the transformer. I assume the peak detector circuit will give the peak voltage, i.e. 1v AC will produce around 1.41v on the output of the detector?
Ideally I would have liked a 1:1 ratio where 1v AC on the input would...
Hi Ian, thanks for the reply. I understand why a 1 Ohm resistor will generate 5v due to V=IR, however I'm still confused about the VA rating. As I understand it, into a resistive load VA is pretty much the same thing as power in watts. Since P = I * V surely if I try to get 5v @ 5A from the...
Hi all. Just recently I have purchased a current transformer for a project I'm working on where I require a low voltage circuit to sense current on a 240v supply. Before I carry on with this post, the specs of the transformer are outlined below:
I should point out that this is the first time I...
It all depends how much money you want to spend. Pioneer make some nice drives but if you want the best balance between cost and performance then LiteOn are probably your best bet.
LG aren't a particularly outstanding manufacturer of CD-ROM drives, you will probably have to replace it. You can probably find a better drive than the LG for £10 GBP or thereabouts.
Re: Power supply problem
Ok, thanks Ian. I suspected that was the case but thought I'd check. I also assume that means that my 24v transformer could be as small as 350VA or so, yet I'd still be able to draw 27A @ 24v?
Power supply problem
Hello there. I'm planning to construct a low voltage AC power supply with outputs for 12v, 24v and 36v. I plan to run all these voltages down a 3 core cable as follows:
Core 1: Gnd
Core 2: 12v
Core 3: 36v
This should allow me 36v between cores 1 and 3, 24v between cores 2...
Re: coax cable
Thanks Ian, the cable I was looking at upgrading to states the attenuation as around 19db @ 890Mhz, which I think is marginally better than RG-6. Not sure on the specs of the cable I am currently using, but I guess it will be pretty mediocre compared to RG-6. I'll let you know...
r f change over switch
Hi, hopefully this is the right section for this post! Anyway...
I have linked together all the VCR's in my house (along with the cable box) to allow them to be viewed on any TV in any room. However, the house is fairly big and the signal goes through at least 80m of...
Re: Pulse width modulation
Sorry about the late reply guys, I've been away on holiday for a while and haven't been able to keep an eye on the forum.
Kileen, I'm using a standard 50Hz transformer for prototyping, I assumed since this is designed to operate at 50Hz that it would act as a low...
