I slowly pre-heat the PCB (or the general area) for about a minute, and then take another minute to bring the joint area up to flow temp. After flow, another minute of reducing temp to under 100C or so. This should allow the flux to do its work before the solder melts. The flux is activated at...
When you get out of simulation and build a circuit, it seems like a good idea to do an FRA on the loop to confirm the performance. Right?
I am a relative newcomer to SMPS design. From what I have learned so far, is that simulation is only marginally useful unless you are really trying something...
I have a design in production right now with he same controller and have very little ringing. It is not the greatest choice, but it should work FAR better than you describe. It still sounds like your layout is not right. The performance of these is VERY dependent on the layout. It took me a few...
Your issue is most likely in the PCB layout. The schematic is straight out of TI Webbench and they generally do a decent job. In SMPS design, the schematic is only the beginning. The layout is as important as the MOSFET.
Can you show and describe the PCB?
Also, why are you using an external...
These rules will save you a few revisions and quite a few hours of troubleshooting. Excellent summary of the typical issues.
My primary encouragement to learn power electronics was that other engineers and layout people tried their best to convince me it was magic as well. What I learned is...
My learning curve (the past 18 months) in power electronics has been very steep and expensive. It is paying off, but only after some very unexpected and long lessons. The project being discussed is not an easy one as others have pointed out.
PCB layout for this type of circuit is sort of a...
This is my first post on this forum which seems to have some really fantastic contributors and information. When stumbling across an extraordinarily broad questions like this, I decided to chime in.
Have you even attempted to help yourself by doing any amount a research on how this may be...
