Would be interesting to know which software version is published in Elektor.
I dont think it is 1.4 but I can be wrong.
This is also the first Elektor project I know where only the hex file is downloadable,
but no source code.

but the programm from Abacom really impressed me.

I got my M16C board today.
Really cool from Renesas, no question.

I would need a programm with the following basic featues:
Ruler with units displayed in cm and mm
Ability to draw circles and boxes.
Import and scaling of graphics.
Should be easy to handle.
That is not much so any graphic programm should do,
but the GUI should...

I also built this programmer, and it is working great!!!
Verry fast, and without problems.
I sent a note to Elektor, because they put a wrong IC in the partlist.
Take a look at the schema, there the correct IC is listed.
Instead of the 74LS04 you must take an 74LS07 !!!
