microprocessor project suggestion
My project was a totally discrete FM stereo transmitter, but it was quite elaborate. It depends on if you want to go digital or analog.

Although not a complete resource, you at least need to have a copy of several ARRL Radio Amateur's Handbook. They are loaded with valuable information on radio theory. Try to get one from the '70's, one from the '80's, and a later edition one. They are an excelent read...
