There are three good options for gui development in X:
Kylix - very easy if you have delphi background, as it shares the same interface library, but if youve never done delphi before then its probably not the best choice.
kdevelop - pretty easy to use, the ide still has bugs...

I assume its designed for a 112v supply, well how hard would it be to change this to work with 230v?

Hi, i dont know where you would be able to find designs for one of those. I looked into them a few years ago, but the only models i could find were big bucks, and only sold to law enforcement.
