Hi,
I have a question regarding measuring an RF front end IC. It includes an LNA and a Mixer both differential input and output. The LNA input is matched to 100 ohms (differentially).
The initial design was aiming at designing the VGA too, thus the output matching of the mixer wasn't taken...

You are right but this is if i a, testing for commercial use and if i have full receiver including digital backend and i have a model of transmitter which is not the case.
I think that for an analog rf front end , it is enough to measure the rf parameters as i stated above...

but r u talkinhg about using a SAW filter AFTER LNA (ina single LNA system) to perform band selection..???
i think that the placement of this filter will be before the LNA (between the antenna and the LNA)
Correct me if i am wrong or i misunderstood u..

The SAW filter u r talking about is for image rejection in the super het Rx while i'm designing a ZIF Rx which needs no image rejection nearl at all which is one of the great advantages of theZIF Rx.

I'm designing a bias cell for my LNA and i tink that the constant gm bias is the best for LNA but i have two questions:
1- the gm which is constant (1/R) is the gm of the transistor in the bias cell not the transconductor transistor in the LNA.

thanks alot khouly, so it is normal speaking that i use a constant gm bias circuit and put a high quality off chip resistance ..
if i wanted to make this resistance on chip , will there be any practical case or it will be catastrphe :D

I'm desigining a front end for WCDMA receiver and i have designed the LNA and working in the mixer..
But i need to bias the LNA (and of course the mixer later :)) so what type of bias circuit i can use..
I read a little about the constant gm bias but this needs an external resstance...
I want to make my LNA is imune to process variationg and i also would like to know how to design the bias circuitry needed for the lna, i'm desigining a normal cs ind degen lna and i'm modifiying it right now according to the paper of asgaran
