Hi,
Can anyone tell me why does directivity of a directional antenna changes over frequency?
For example, I designed a patch antenna with -10 dB bandwidth from 3-5GHz. By simulation I obtained the 2d plot of directivity vs frequency. Directivity changes over frequency within 3-5 GHz. What may...
Hi thanks for explanation.
Moment method, FEM are taught in which course? computational EM? Can you suggest an intermediate level text book that provides basic theory of those methods you mentioned and which is easy to follow for newbie
Hi,
I read somewhere that ADS momentum is 2.5D EM simulator whereas CST, HFSS are 3D EM simulator.
What does mean by 2.5D here? How come an object has 2.5D? Does it mean miniaturized objects with very little thickness?
If you placed your waveport "inside" the radiation box, it would generate error message. A wave port MUST BE defined on the plane of the radiation boundary, not "inside" of radiation bounadary. That means, waveport and radiation plane must be on the same plane. IF you want to use wave port...
It is because "Port can only be defined on uniform continuity of cross section" No tapered face allowed for wave port definition.
I explained in the attached figure below with marking. check it plz.

I made a rough diagram of PEC cap attached to the port (pink color)...
Hi,
It looks like my problem and your problem are same. :) In fact I was going to start a thread about "internal waveport & PEC cap in HFSS" but as I saw your post, I thought it would be good to discuss here.
To answer some of your questions:
1) Yes, in this case it is internal waveport since...
Yes, we can always do that.
BTW I had another explanation earlier this morning from one of my friends. He said although practically we feed antenna by coax but in EM simulator we simplify it by a rectangular cross section (waveport). In fact coax and rectangular waveguide both have similar...
Hi,
I designed vivaldi in HFSS.
then I placed two identical vivaldi with 80 cm separation.
Since the problem size is huge, I don't want to use radiation boundary box. Instead I want to use PML
But whenever I am trying to setup PML, it provides an error message attached below.
please help me...
Hi,
When we design an antenna in CST or HFSS, we define "waveport" at the feeding terminal with a "rectangular cross section".
But practically we feed the antenna by SMA connector connected with a 50 ohm coax.
My question is why these EM software use "waveport"? Why don't we just place a SMA...
Hi,
I am using two vivaldi antennas separated with their far field distance (~80cm) in CST
Since they are UWB antenna, so I am trying to excite Tx antenna with an input UWB signal (i1 as indicated in port signal folder)
But after simulation is completed, I do not see the port signal of Rx...
