Hi
I'm trying to connect a GPS unit (GPS-610F) to a GENIE E28 PIC chip through a UART (SC16C2552B from Phillips/NXP), but I'm having trouble connecting the UART up to the GPS. All I want it to do is take the serial data from the GPS and output it again in binary format through the 8 data bus...
I've got pins 1 and 2 connected to pins 2 and 3 of a 9-pin D serial connector, which is then connected to the computer via USB (no serial ports).
I've also got signal ground of the serial port going to pin 4 (ground) on the GPS.
The main problem I have is getting the computer to recognise that...
Hey
Have you had any more luck with connecting it?
The main problem I have is getting the GPS module connected to the PC... doesn't seem to connect/recognise it, although RF have said it is 'plug 'n' play'...

I don't know yet - how are you connecting the module to your PC?
I've attatched the User's guide to the GPS Viewer they sent me (that I posted earlier), this might help you. As a thought - has the GPS module been connected up normally (IE power supply etc)

Here you go - hopefully it should just run straight off when you open it. Like I said, we still need some way to get the information from the program to the GPS, but no reply from RF yet.

Hi engr.hayee
I got a reply from RF - they sent me two documents - a user's guide to the GPS Veiwer (slightly different to the LS Veiwer possibly?) and a document similar to the Binary Message Protocol one found on RF's webiste. The GPS Veiwer seems to be the answer to the programming problem...
I have had the same problem today - when I tested the module there seemed to be stuff coming out of the serial pin but not the 1PPS or PIO pin. Was this the same for you?
I also looked at the Binary Message Protocol file, which seems to suggest we need to prgram the module to send the...
