The screw in back as I understand is a sensitivity adjustment that opens/closes the magnetic gap. If you start watching video around 5 minute mark you will see a similar screw adjustment.

Thanks, so would it be safe to say that if the radio is connected to say a 8-d battery alone with no path to earth ground it would be completely safe from a lightning strike. Can you think of any scenario where the radio could be damaged.

I was able to find this video that demonstrates the effect a static magnetic field has on transformer. I was hoping to find some information on unidirectional square wave pulsed coils but no such luck. If there is any disagreement on content of video I would interested to hear them.
Assuming there are no tricks I was wondering if anyone had and explanation for what is happening. The only information is that transformer is fed with 50 percent square wave and amp meter reading.

In post #6 you stated it might struggle to pump up to 2 meters even with small diameter tubing. I could be wrong but a smaller diameter tubing would make it more difficult to pump than a larger diameter tubing because of friction losses. I don’t think the diameter effects the static head pressure.
