expectation of a pll or pfd

In an all digital pll with a NCO how exactly can you expect the generated sine wave track the input sine wave? I've been working on one using atan Q / I computed every millisec. It will track frequency if it starts out close enough but there are clear cycle slips on the oscilliscope. I've also...

    FPGA gps signal simulator?

I've been working on a single channel GPS receiver in an Altera Cyclone 4 board kit. I've written it in Verilog. However so far I have been unable to get a signal lock. I was wondering if anyone has a simple signal simulator known to function accurately? I had considered writing it myself but if...

help with a MAX2769B receiver IC

Well I broke down and just bought the evaluation kit and a scope. I have it set to mix 1571.328 which should give me a +4.092 IF. I set my numerical sine generator for a center of 4.092. My NCO sine wave checks out as approx 4.09MHz. However in looking at the incomming data from the Maxim chip...

    NCO timing issue, VERILOG fpga

Sorry missed the decimal point. Should be 1.018MHz from a 50MHz clock. I also misstyped the formula, it should be freq = control * clock / 2^N. What I put partially in the post was the notes I used to figure the control word, control = freq * 2^N / clock.

    NCO timing issue, VERILOG fpga

I am trying to implement a numerically controlled oscillator on a Cyclone 4 fpga. The basic version I found as an example online. I have a 50MHz main clock. Using the equasion freq = controlword * 2^numberbits / clockfreq as the basis. Then reading bits 29-26 as the phasekey of the 30 bit...

help with a MAX2769B receiver IC

I appreciate the reply. My Proto-Advantage board stuck into a breadboard obviously do not have a good ground plane. That in itself could be a major factor in my troubles. As of right now it appears I have a decent CLKOUT signal at least according to and LED I have tied to that input of the FPGA...

help with a MAX2769B receiver IC

I have been having trouble getting a Maxim MAX2769B chip to work on a protoboard. I'm hoping someone here has worked with one of these before. Basically I have tried mounting several to proto-advantage boards. The latest one I took extra care to mount all mount all of the decoupling, AC...
