You can try to use software from www.hrwproject.com/downloads.html which can open and convert MIT .dat files into .txt as well you can see a wave form. Maybe this helps you.

You can try to use SignalViever from www.hrwproject.com/downloads.html, which can let you convert MIT data files into .txt files. As well you can see ecg waves on the screen.
