I have fixed a couple of these.

Most times the 2200uF/25V caps have failed
Occasionally a fuse - unsure why
Once it has been the SMPS...
Can anyone please help me with a scan of the GW (Good Will) GOS-955 oscilloscope manual.
I am restoring one at the moment - they are a classic - I believe one of the first produced by GW.

Re:opinion on the spring filter system, on the Aoyue this needed to be cleaned every 20 or so holes due to the hole in the spring clogging up.
With the Hakko, does the solder actually stick to the inside of the spring like it's supposed to instead of blocking up the hole?
