Embedding S-Parameter File of Series AC Caps in HFSS

Hello folks, I've been trying to incorporate an S2P file for a set of AC caps in a differential pair. I'm using HFSS as I can't do the geometries I need in 3D layout or SIwave. How should I go about creating ports and using this model? I tried following this video , although it's slightly...

Ground ports for differential Via models in ADS

Hi, See the attached image. I haven't got a port config for the via model without ground vias, as I'm not sure how to configure them. Thanks,

Ground ports for differential Via models in ADS

Hi, I'm having difficulty in configuring a FEM (or MoM) simulation in ADS for different via models. One model has 2 ground/stitchting vias, and the other doesn't. For the model using 2 stitched vias, I've connected the ground pins to top and bottom of them, as shown in the image attached...

    Stability Circles, S22 = 1 ?

Hi BigBoss, Right, well the topic I'm covering in my course is oscillators, but this is three-port networks and trying to switch the reference terminal and adding feedback to increase instability. I've attached the question that I'm trying to solve, my schematic and data display. I've added a...

    Stability Circles, S22 = 1 ?

Hi all, I'm just doing a problem on stability circles for oscillators, and have got S22 = 1. Well to be honest, the value is like 1.0001576518877 But how would you interpret the stability circle if S22 = 1? i.e. would the stable region be inside the circle or outside?

Phase Shift Oscillator Simulation in ADS

Nice one BigBoss, No I get what your saying, as i did a lot of control theory last year and should have known that. But thanks again. - - - Updated - - - Yes you're right, I'm just studying this on my high frequency electronics module and wanted to see it working.

Phase Shift Oscillator Simulation in ADS

Yes, just tried it and stays the same. If you were do this using the normal model, what parameters would you configure in the model below: **broken link removed** Here's the ideal model as well: **broken link removed** I have also tried setting the frequency in the transient simulator, but...

Phase Shift Oscillator Simulation in ADS

Hi All, I've been trying to simulate the circuit in the attached image, but not getting the results I want. The oscillations seem ok, but the magnitude is far off and been going round in circles trying different things. #In ADS, there's an Ideal OpAmp and standard model; in the schematic...

Calculating overall VSWR of a matched circuit?

Ok solved it! Right, I've attached my matlab code and an attachment of ABCD params formula. The problem I did the first time round was treating the TL4 as a series Z, which is wrong. So using the formulas. I used the Yshunt ABCD for the s/c stub. The Y value is worked about by...

Calculating overall VSWR of a matched circuit?

Hi biff and thanks for your reply. I've attempted that and my Zin is 5.326+10.135i, which makes sense as the reactance will cancel out due to the matching. However the result that I get in ADS, 1.071 as shown above, is different to what I'm getting with this value which is VSWR of 9.77...

Calculating overall VSWR of a matched circuit?

Hi all, I am trying to calculate the overall VSWR of the attached circuit. In ADS I get around 1.078, but how do you do it by hand? I've tried converting each part into ABCD params and multiplying then converting them back to S or Z and taking S11 or Z11 and working out the reflection coeff...

[SOLVED] input return loss for conjugately matched amplifier

Realised I can just take make ABCD parameters of the stubs and TL's, then convert the S parameters of the transistor to ABCD as well, then multiply it all. After multiplying convert back to S-params, then the input return loss is -20log(|S11|).

[SOLVED] input return loss for conjugately matched amplifier

Okay, I have gone back to my high frequency lecture notes. I have attached the document. So on step 7 for the example that contiues from page 2, it shifts the reference planes using the method shown converts to Y params then adds on the open circuit stubs reactances, then converts back to S...

[SOLVED] input return loss for conjugately matched amplifier

I have realised that I need to calculate the S-Parameters of the circuit. But not too sure how to do it. Found stuff on shifting reference planes and adding the admittances of open circuits but still not getting the right input return loss when worked out the new S11.
