I just joined a new openHardware project born in Rome, it's called openPICUS and it's a module with a microchip PIC 24F + Bluetooth or WIFI RF.
It's very interesting since it's open hardware and they care about comments and ideas.

Hope these...

embedding Bluetooth is quite difficult, the open stacks you find online are full of bugs. I suggest 2 modules BLUEMORE from www.eikonsite.it, one master and the other slave (you can set role) and it'll work in 5 minutes
Brandon
for the bluetooth module on microcontroller side I'd suggest BLUEMORE series modules from eikon italy www.eikonsite.it, you can buy online directly from them
I use BLUEMORE200 that's a class 1, once setted (with a simple software) it works like wireless uart and you can connect to PC...
bluetooth interfacing...
I suggest you to use simply serial commands over Bluetooth (you can develop a simple protocol).
I use modules BLUEMORE106 from Eikon Italy www.eikonsite.it , easy to use and to setup
Bye
I did it using a simple Bluetooth module with Serial port profile from eikon www.eikonsite.it BLUEMORE200 that's a class 1 with 100meter range
easy to setup and to work
I suggest you to use an embedded module with bluetooth stack. I actually use BLUEMORE200 from eikon (Italy) www.eikonsite.it
It's a simple transparent module that you can setup by AT command using your microcontroller, or offline on the PC and after that you can connect to your hardware
