In practice, it might be better to say that you are reducing all current paths to the node, making it high impedance, since even "off" switches will leak some current.

It's not so much the wire as what's near it.
Starting at about maybe 1 megahertz, you'll start to couple signals into adjacent wires. At moderately low powers, like signals in computers, this may be negligible, but at extremely high powers as in a radio transmitter...
