[SOLVED] Can I unplug cell phone antenna?

Ok, so I took a depth breath and cut the leads for pins 2 and 3 on the RF power amplifier. I then powered up the phone to see if the buttons and other functions still worked. Everything still functions great!!! The buttons light up and beep when pressed and the digital display on the handset...

[SOLVED] Can I unplug cell phone antenna?

Oh and one final question (I hope). Will this modification still allow a very small amount of RF to the TNC connector? I assume the answer is no, or that it will be at such a low level as to be inconsequential. Just wondering if I should leave the antenna connected or not.

[SOLVED] Can I unplug cell phone antenna?

Fantastic! It sounds like the solution I was looking for. My apologies for not correctly identifying the antenna connector type. I am still learning. So just to confirm before I cut the power connections, I will cut the two chip leads that are circled in yellow on the attached picture?

[SOLVED] Can I unplug cell phone antenna?

Before building a dummy load that could be a fire hazard, I tried Motorola Test Mode Programming. Although I was able to change lots of settings, it seems I could not make a permanent change to the power level of the transmitter or to turn off the transmitter. :( So I cracked it open to have a...

[SOLVED] Can I unplug cell phone antenna?

Thanks biff44 and G4BCH, So, as a noob and someone who only knows enough about electronics to be dangerous (hence the name Chipsmoker) how did you guys determine that I need a 50 ohm load?

[SOLVED] Can I unplug cell phone antenna?

That's a great article on dummy loads. Thanks so much for sharing. I have not yet cracked open the case on the transmitter or I guess more correctly I should call it the transceiver? I am the curious type so I will have a peak inside. I actually don't mind cutting or removing components as...

[SOLVED] Can I unplug cell phone antenna?

Thanks G4BCH, FCC data can be found here: https://fccid.io/IHDT5SZ2 I never thought of the interference issue. Good point! I wonder if the transmitter can be disabled either through programming or cutting traces. I do know that the antenna connector is a BNC coax. It detaches easily at the...

[SOLVED] Can I unplug cell phone antenna?

I have a 1992 Motorola mobile phone that came installed in a vintage sports car we recently purchased. I want to preserve it for historic reasons and to keep the car as original as possible. I realize the AMPS technology is long since obsolete so the phone is essentially a brick, but the...

    Weller WRS1000 Rework Station

Thanks BradtheRad, That is what I tried but after I finished writing the conversation and tried to send it I got an error message saying "Oops something went wrong, you may not start a conversation...". Perhaps it is a permissions thing for a new user like me or the recipient has a filter of...

    Weller WRS1000 Rework Station

Hi Everyone, I am hoping member neazoi will see this and respond here or with a private message. I first want to mention that I tried private messaging via "conversation" but that did not work for me. I have recently become a member on this forum and have acquired a Weller WRS1000 repair...

    Weller WRS1000 Rework Station

Thanks Dana, This helps a bit, but I am still puzzled over the + and - signs and what is the difference between the soldering iron icon at 10 o'clock and the one at 1:00 o'clock? Both look identical to me and both have the + sign. I get that the 11 o'clock icon is probably the desoldering...

    Weller WRS1000 Rework Station

Hello All, Newbie here. I just acquired a Weller WRS1000 Rework Station that needs a bit of TLC but most of all I need an owner's manual and if possible a service manual. I have searched online and on this board so I don't hold out much hope of finding either one. My plan "B" is that someone...
