Iv've tried building this circuit and I keep getting '141' on the display or very high or low reading. It only sometimes gives the correct otuput. what could be the problem?

Thanks for replying. Im getting an analog voltage in and converting it to digital. I want to store the digital number and send it at a later stage.

can someone tell me how i could store a value in a pic 16f84 and later send it to pc with serial port in vb6. also would i have to use a max232.

I also wanted to know if instead of a 100k trimpot, I could use a normal 100k potentiometer and if so, would it matter where I connected it. The trimpot has middle to ground. I'm not sure if it matters where i connect the input and output...
