I am working on wireless sensor network and would develop a board which convert signals from various sensors (voltage, current resistance) on a single bus (spi or I2c) .I thought to use a cpld instead of the usual microcontroller.

Hi I'd like to know how to design a/d converter and how the converter can recognize the incoming signal at his input pad and then start the sample and hold process.
