youre choosing a hard way u can use simple ir LEDs instead but if u have to use barcode reader u definitly need the data analyser unit to work with the 16 bit that the analyser reads.maybe an AVR will be good idea

short circuit currrent in any block with output usually means the maximum current that output can give for long time when output is connected to ground

although your speaker is 200 watt but if you want to connect two 1000 watt to the external port you may have a problems becouse the resistance of the speakers may differ from the 2000 wat tbut any hoew if you connect them to your system the two 1000 watt speakers may not work...
i suggest u to search the words in the gigapedia but try it after you have registered there its the best way to find fundementals of a topic in the best books

i recieved your email please do not spam my mail and about your problem i should say that AVR pwm's are 5 v not 30 v if you need a 30 v PWM u can use amplifier or u can find what u want ready and made in communication specialized ic's
i guess your idea about the similarity with wireless mouse is right but wireless mouse uses just simple limitted type of data to the reciever however u need a ful data transmitter and reciever with enoufh speed and noise reduction
