Use this sw to get more info about performences of diffrent capacitors.

In general-

1. Electrolytic capacitors - use for low cost, High ripple curent, low ESR and shorter MTBF and high cap value. 1UF and above. use For power s.
2. Polyester capacitors- use for High Stability and Reliability.
3. Ceramic cap use for high freq, low cost and you can get X7R for general use 10% and higher accuracy 2% NPO.
4. Tantalum Cap - Hige capacitance, High ripple curent, Low ESR. use For power s.

Sounded attractive but actually this file describes obsolete technology. No information about chip components like chip capacitor or chip resistor.

Plastic: Low dielectric losses
Polyester (Mylar) |
Polypropylene > all good for general purpose audio freq's, active filters, timers
Polystyrene | ( low values)

Mica (silvered) > low loss & stable for RF tuned circuits and Oscillators

Ceramic > Good as RF Bypass, not very stable and non-linear, avoid in audio
many types and TempCo. HiVolt used for for mains noise suppress

Electrolytic: High loss
Aluminium : General purpose PSU and bypass
Tantalum : Low voltage PSU and bypass
Check out Electron Transfer types known as Black Gate (by RubyCon)
good for HiFi PSU and coup[ling

Keep in mind that not all capacitors are created equal even those of the same type such as ceramic, electrolytic ...

If you need to design high performance switching power supply, such as those that used for high speed processor, you need very good cap with low esr that will cost a lot more money.

I use tantalum as a bypass capacitor for regulator.

Hi,
For RF : Do not ignore the parasitic you can use them very well. Just add around 0.4pF per landing pair.
