In my opinion, u can do it this way.
1)design circuit using bargraph LED driver like LM3915 to drive 10 LEDs. (the circuit is with the PDF datasheet)
2)design 4 filters with the range that u want... (mostly RC filter)
3)connect your audio output(assume single) to the 4 filter input, then connect each filter output to the LED bargraph driver.
there should b a lot of such hobbist circuit around the net... (",)
