What is bandgap diode? What is the difference between a bandgap diode compared to others.

Thanks.

I am not sure whether bandgap diode is the same like tunnel/esaki diode.
I believe the bandgap diode is used for providing reliabe reference voltage. The thing is I dont know why is it called as bandgap diode. Based on the diagram it looks like the normal PN junction.

1. Do not add a new post 1 minute later. Edit last post instead or you might get warning in the future!!

2. Use a real subject for your requestion..not just "question:" !!!!

Thanks for the reminder.
Will follow the rules.

To all, finally I have the understanding for bandgap diode. Basically bandgap diode is the PN diode which uses the bandgap for its mechanism. It is used for bandgap reference circuit. The most used circuitry is with resistor with negative TCR and the bandgap dioses used as many as to get the net TCR = 0 ( or minimal as possible ). TCR - is the temp coefficient. Diode has positive TCR and resistor has negative TCR. I am referring to CMOS .

A good bandgap diode must have ideality factor close to 1.
