Post06 Oct 2004 4:21   modelling microwave circuit without ground plane

Hi I've always had this microwave circuit question and I hope someone knowledgeable will care to read it and try to answer it for me:

If a microwave circuit has no ground plane, so that signal line and ground are not running parallel to each other, can one still use a transmission line model? In any case, how would you model the way signal travels along such a line?

Hope I've stated the question clearly enough.

Without the ground plane you have something more like an antenna. You would have to use a three dimensional simulator like HFSS to find out what happens. Circuit simulators will not do a good job.
