both have many things in common, the main differance is 55xx has addition mac and bus, larger internal memory and external, parallel processing, additional interfaces ,more than 8 ways to boot your program,.
any one worked on 54xx easy to move to 55xx.
in general any code build on 54xx can work on 55xx with few changes
I recommand to learn 55xx for its powerful capability and wide range of applications

Yes shamrani is right
c55 family is newer then c54 so for new designs c55 should be preffered.

If selection is in between these two... then i would say definately 55xx series....
otherwise go for 64xx or 67xx series... its really powerful

Thanks for all friends.
It seems c55xx is a good choice.
My designs are mainly for low power supply, so the c6xxx may be not suitable for me.

I think C54xx is good choice for beginner.
Its design is simpler than C55xx.

these two chip are almost the same.
55x has 2MACs and is used in some TI's new reference design
for ex. new MP3 chip set. DAB...
54x jsut has 1MAC.

| TI C55x is the new generation DSP and has more mips power and supports more memory. The prices for C55x and C54x are almost same. C55x is a better choice.
