I just need to control (turn on/off) one equipment over internet. Do you know if exist something (not computer) that I can connect to my Router and with a IP address typed anywhere in the world close or open a contact used to control my equipment ???? I have a Static IP.

Thanks for your help....

That kind of technology exists, look for "wake on LAN", thi is the way u can turn on a computer from a remote place, using a LAN or the internet in this case, this has to do with the type on ethernet boeard u have, maybe u can find some ideas there.

Hello Serankko,

Wake-on LAN is only for turning on computers. If you have a computer switched on anyway, this is the easiest solution. Just run a server program on it and control the parallel port or whatever from the server.

I assume though that you want something completely independant of a PC. I am looking for something similar, probably to build, to control various devices around the home.

There are a few commercial products for this, for example at

http://www.micronica.com.au/catalog/remote/

but they are expensive. What you need is a simple MCU-based, ethernet-enabled board, maybe with a web server. Elektor have just published a project for one, in the July/August issue, alhtough this requires building a seperate MCU board from a previous project. It looks good though allowing control of the board from the web pages it serves.

There are others out there, for instance take a look at

http://www.edtp.com/

It really depends what you want to spend and how much you want to build/fiddle with.

Hope this has helped,
FoxyRick.
