Pretty much all EDA programs will generate what you want even DC-cad from 1992 - dos based, why do you ask the question?

If you are looking ofr component information management system...or CIS...
use Active Parts for cadence and Ilnos for P*otel
they are well integrated with schematic component output and vendor information

If you are looking for just BOM software and not tied to EDA package I have an Access Database that I wrote several years ago that will generate pick-lists PO's and pretty much every thing that is involved with the manufacturing side of it - it is quite good - not my opinion, I've been told that by IT pros, I wrote it so anyone can have it if they want, I just need to find it. Please don;t ask how I did it because pretty much my boss had a gun to my head, not really, and told me "you will do this"

As soon as I kind find it, (I recently moved), and as soon as I can remove all references to the company I worked for, I will post on filemanager under the dir access_bom. Thanks for your interest.

Dear Skipy,
I suppose you haven't opened the private message sent by me. May I have your BOM software?

OK guys it is posted on filemanager (new) in access_bom folder - this was my first and only Access effort but it turned out quite well, like anything it takes time to learn how to use. Hope this helps, I am always ready to try and help!

Dear Skipy:
Your program has some problems to be regarded as a BOM, the principal are:
1- It does not use a recursive algorithm for implosion/explosion of the product structure lists.
2- The list generated does not follow any structural order, this is you don't have an indented list with the indent size being proporcional to the position of the items inside the product structure.
3- The program doesn't have any provision for cost roll up.
4- The program does not allow sorting for diferent fields.
Dear friend sorry for this post, I just decided to do it to clarify what mean a BOM program.

Nanodog,
I appreciate your criticisms, but like I said it was my first and only Access programming effort, perhaps you would be willing to post a better example - I offered this up as free for anybody that wanrs to use it - why look a gift horse in the mouth? - you are certainly free to modify/improve it. What have you posted lately? - and last but not least I design PCB's I do not write software for a living.

Dear Skipy:
I am sorry if I upset you, this was not my intention. However, the correctness of the informations posted should be preserved. In this sense nobady can be offended if someone with more experience in certain area replicate an information placed. I think this is exactly the objective of this forum, this is the build up of knowledge based on the expertise of each one. Am I wrong?
Best regards
NandoPG

nandopg,
I wasn't really upset, it is just that I offered this up as an example of what can be done by a rank amateur on the first attempt, this version virtually ran the BOM and purchasing function for an engineering department at a 10 million dollar ayear company for several years quite successfully, and yes, I was proud of my meager accomplishment, as for the sorting of fields, I believe, that is an access 97 issue, if I recall access 2000 could do that, I also argued for the ability to explode sub-assemblies, but my management wanted separate BOMS for sub assemblies. As I said before I appreciate your comments. I am only here to share and make friends.
Thanx again,
