motor braking


I need a simple means of braking a dc 12v motor using solid state technology.

In general you disconnect it from the power source and connect it to a device that dissipates power. A Zener diode is one example if you do not want to recover the power. A battery is an example if you are interested in efficiency.

Since this is a DC circuit, power MOSFETs are the cheapest choice. Be careful about overvoltage protection from the inductive kick on the motor winding.
