How would you control DC motors?

Need to control DC motor of ~300W at 24VDC (~13A) and in some cases on 12VDC (~25A) with reversal from PIC micro.

How would you do that saving cost and space?

The usual way is to use an H bridge of FETs and pulse width modulation.

Hi Flatulent,

Have you seen any sample of circuits (boards) of this?
Which FET's would you recommend?
What about the PCB design, tracks etc?

All info is welcome.

International Rectifier http://www.irf.com/product-info/imotion/ makes these items and controller ICs. So does ON Semi http://www.onsemi.com/site/apps/taxonomy/0,4459,163,00.html

You should use real wires to route these tens of Amps around and not PC traces. It will be cheaper that way.

You should read a book on this subject. There are many pitfalls to avoid. The book cost will be less than the burnt out parts from learning from the errors. One example is the need for catching diodes to rout the motor fly back current when the transistors are cut off.
