02 Jan 2004 8:46 How to Model Concrete Wall for UWB Radar? |
| Hi, I need to model a concrete wall in MATLAB for UWB Radar. The Radar is 2-10GHz. Is there a way to model the response using a FIR filter or is there another way?

This is tricky. You need to take into consideration that the constitutive parameters will change in the 2-10GHz range. Also If the concrete is reinforced this will introduce frequency selective effects.
Kind Regards

| The wall is mostly sand and stone. You can use a velocity of propagation of 1/2 or 1/3 of free space and an attenuation. Your biggest hardware problem is the impedance step between air and the wall. There is a US patent issued many years ago on an antenna that is matched to the concrete and transfers the energy nearly 100% in both directions.
