If you mean with PLC a programable logic device like an FPGA.
I can't repply with yes or no cause it belongs to your task.
I think the biggest difference is that an processor like a pic works sequientiel. (Command after command) an FPGA realize the implemented logic. (Inputs will enable the suggested outputs)
So you can use a pic in the most cases.
Describe your task for more info on it.

Hi,
If your are speaking about Industrial Process Controllers
The answer is depends, the main item to use PLC is the fiability (or should be), because in many cases if the controller fails...big damages/costs can happend....
So you can use PIC to control but be carrefull about feability!

In My opinion, I think it can and it useful for cost reduction.
By the way, in industrial factory environment you shold careful for noise condition from electrical machine that can make you bad surprise! (and may may make you cry too)

Just about amy micro can be used to take the place of PLC- often with improved efficiency and almost as goo reliability.
However, the problem with using micros is that when problems develope only personnel familar with the micro can troubleshoot at the chip level. In real life situations all faults are automaticly blaimed on the micro being the part of the system that most people do not understand. At least PLC's are more understandably, many operators and most maintenance men can and will work with them. Also, reconfigurations or reuse of components could present some problems.
These issues can be worked arround, but you need to plan for them from the start.

| it will depend upon the application. the plc is more industrial use and it is easy for the techniciens to work on. also, it can persite for great tempreture and many other effects.

| Sure, you can use the PIC instead of PLC for a particular application. To find out more search for "ladsim" on google and you will get the answer.
