may someone describe this code for me?
Sub Loadbuffer
'Load Display Buffer "
Itmp1 = Len(stringout)
Dspcnt = 1
For Charcnt = 1 To Itmp1
Stmp1 = Mid(stringout , Charcnt , 1)
Btmp2 = Stmp1
For Charsegment = 0 To 5
Lookupcnt = Btmp2 - 32
Lookupcnt = Lookupcnt * 6
Lookupcnt = Lookupcnt + Charsegment
Tmp = Lookup(lookupcnt , Asciitable)
Dspbuff(dspcnt) = &HFF - Tmp
Incr Dspcnt
Next Charsegment
Next Charcnt
Bufferlen = Dspcnt
End Sub
how does it findout that should catch which character from the asciitable ?

IS THERE ANY FREE WARE OR JAVA POWERED PAGE WHERE I CAN GENERATE
CHARACTER FOR OTHER DISPLAYS THAT MAY NOT NECESSARILY BE 5 BY 7 MATRIX? I MAY HAVE TO MAKE A DOT MATRIX THAT IS NOT USING 7 BY 5 MATRIX. AGAIN I PLAN TO HAVE 80 COLUMNS AT 40HZ SCANNING RATE. DOES IT MEAN I MAY HAVE TO APPLY 800ma CURRENT TO GET SAME INTENSITY AS 10ma CONTINOUS CURRENT?PLEASE I NEED TO HERE FROM MY FRIENDS OUT THERE.

40Hz is too slow, 50Hz is better.
Assuming you're building a 7x80 display the current would be 800ma @ 10ma per segment. Not unrealistic.

does anyone have idea of how to use external eeprom to store font lookup table and using serial communication from a terminal windows to type in your message, i may have to use up to forty columns
Added after 7 minutes:
bluemmetronics i dont think i am being unrealistic, i saw a guy who used atiny for his project and he wanted to explain the scanning stuff, but he said in his explaination that because the leds have to be on for a short time, you had to apply much more current and even went as far as showing how to do the calculation, so that was how i arrived at 800ma, but i am feeling that would be too much and that is why i had to come to the forum.
as for 50hz the guy advised that if your ac is a 50hz line, you should not use 50hz and same apply if you make use of 60hz ac line, he suggested between 40 and 70hz, you can check from wanadoe.com or something like that for the projects.
any comment? i am waiting and online now.

| 800ma and a 1/7 duty is realistic. Just faster than 40Hz as it will flicker to some people but not to others.

Hi! I am a newbie here and just downloaded the moving message display zip file. I am currently looking for ways to set up a moving message display with 10 pcs. 4 x 7 LED matrices. Is it possible to expand the 4 matrix moving message display circuit to 10?
Added after 27 minutes:
Correction!!!
I mean 7 x 8 LED matrix

Hello everybody,
I am rojo, one of the first guys to post messages in this thread/topic
few years ago ), (see the first page ), you can see there my moving message display, controlled by atmel uC, and a PC AT keyboard connected directly to uC,
all controlled by software written in C,
it`s very interesting to see how this thread evolved,lots of people actually contacted me
, and during this time, some of them actually rebuilt my display following my
schematics and instructions, some incorporated my keyboard part of the project
into their own.
Now i`m thinking of expanding the project, possibly building display with
two rows, controlled directly by PC keyboard, maybe usb version ,
and after that maybe even with wirelles keyboard . and with pc software
for downloading messages into display,
i.e. building something that could actually be sold for real money )
anybody interested in some sort of cooperation (software, hardware development or providing me with cheap bright LEDa, as I dont have much time
for fun these days, would be more than welcome.
or in general any questions regarding my original display would be more than welcome
bye

These are a beginner's first attempts, step by step.
I used the ELEKTOR's article (from 2001) as a starting point.
These are working in Proteus ISIS, so for the real-time simulation I made
many circuit simplifications (no row drivers, nor current limiting resistors..).
However, my friends builded the circuits yet (with my help) and all are working
as well.
All folders in the attached zip contain a working DSN file for ISIS, all sources
and the compiled HEX file too. There are also a screenshot ...
- ORIGINAL
89C2051, assembly. The article in PDF format and the original sources.
- MY_6CH
89C2051, assembly. HC164. Cascadable (pos switch), rs232 input
- MY_8CH
89C2051, assembly. HC595.
- SCROLL_8
89C2051, assembly. The first attempt to make a char by char scrolling...
- PIC_Scroll_C
PIC16F628A, MikroC. Switch to cascadable static / scrolling with speed switch
- PIC_Scroll_C_D
PIC16F628A, MikroC + CofMaker (for C source debugging)
- PIC_Scroll_PROTON
PIC16F628A, Proton Basic (PBP-like)
- PIC_Scroll_PROTON1
PIC16F628A, Proton Basic, v1.2, increased char buffer
Cheers

Hi all Dear Experts.
I am constant browser of this thread for updates.
Have look at attached files. !! award winning design.!!
but i think it is limited to fixed modules of matrix. is it possible to expand this desing to say 20 to 30 modules of dotmatrix.
Thanx
